importing models in to ANSYS, if the file is in unsupported format

importing models in to ANSYS, if the file is in unsupported format

importing models in to ANSYS, if the file is in unsupported format

(OP)
Hello,
How would one import models generated in AMIRA 4.0 software in to ANSYS 9.0, if ansys doesn`t support amira format. Is there anyway such as writing link file in fortran or C and executing it???
Any input will be much helpful
thanks
vinston

RE: importing models in to ANSYS, if the file is in unsupported format

Look at your export options in AMIRA (File>Save As or File>Export). If it includes an export to IGES format, do this, then you can import this file directly into ANSYS. Any "other" format, and you have to pay an add-on to your ANSYS licence to import. "other" can be SAT (ACIS), PARASOLID, STEP and a few others such as Solidworks, Pro/E and UG.

thanks for the reply. Yea I have tried to do that. I have all other products you mentioned in ANSYS, but none of those formats are included in the list of AMIRA exportable formats. AMIRA can import IGES formats but can't export to IGES. What could be any other possible way?
AMIRA can export files to:
Fluent / UNS (.cas)
Wavefront(.obj)
DXF(.dxf)
MATLAB Binary Format(.mat)
MATLAB M-files Format (.m)
Hypermesh
IDEAS universal format
Open Inventor(.iv) etc.,

thanks
Vinny

RE: importing models in to ANSYS, if the file is in unsupported format

Sorry, Vinny but none of those formats are supported by ANSYS. The only thing to do is to ask AMIRA technical support to see if they have a converter to translate to IGES/SAT/x_t/etc.. Tech support often have these tools which they use in-house (I used to work in tech support, which is why I say this), so it's worth a try.
