Plywood gussets

Plywood gussets

(OP)
What design value would you place on resistance of plywood gussets (say 1/2") in wood trusses.  Spans in the order of 30 feet .  Trusses spaced 24"+/- OC. Depending on wood species etc.  Chord an web members typically 2 x 4 or 2 x 6

RE: Plywood gussets

The plywood gussets are only part of the story. The quantity of fasteners, size and location is alot more important. Also each connection may have different sizes of gussets and fasteners in accordance with the actual stress at that point.

Try contacting the Forest Products Laboratory in Madison Wisconsin.  their website  is:

RE: Plywood gussets

The Forest Products Lab document "Longtime Performance of Trussed Rafters With Different Connections Systems: 10-Year Evaluation" discusses how plywood gussets perform and how they compare with typical metal plate connectors.

The results...
Marginal for plywood gussets using only nails.
Very good for plywood gussets using both nails & glue.
