What are the clearance requirements for circuit breaker panels - sub main and final distribution - per the British standars?

RE: clearance requirements for electrical panels per British Standards

Marttie:

Refer to BS7671. Most probably you'll have to buy it.

RE: clearance requirements for electrical panels per British Standards

If you mean internal clearances and low voltage - AllenWest panels were built to the following:

BS5486 pt.1 1990
EN60439-1
IEC439-1

Sorry, I don't have copies so I can't tell you any more than that.  The contents page for the IEC spec (costs an arm and a leg) can be found on:

I do have a copy of BS 7671 : 2001.  I have not been able to locate a passage requiring a specific clearance and I've spent considerable time looking.  I'm familiar with the USA National Electrical Code (NFPA 70 - most often called the NEC). It is very specific as the clearances around and above circuit breaker panels for each voltage range.

Thank you to everyone who responded.
