How many seats at your office?

How many seats at your office?

How many seats at your office?

(OP)
Was just wondering how many seats your company has. I had been under the impression that companies buy SWx in the at least 10's of seats if not 100's, but I found out today, that doesn't seem to be the "norm" in my (new) area.

Here are my stats

Aerospace Company / 45 Engineers / 28 Seats of SWx / about 20% utilized.

Previous Employer

Aerospace Company / 115 Engineers / 100 Seats of SWx / About 80% utilized.

Before That

Aerospace Company / 100's of engineers / 100's of CATIA seats / utilization unknown.

And one more

Aerospace Company / 5 Engineers / 1 Seat of SWx / 400% utilization (if you know what i mean)...

RE: How many seats at your office?

One seat, one industrial designer (with alter-ego engineer), 100% utilized (does that make 200%).

RE: How many seats at your office?

Are both egos schizophrenic?  If so, it sounds like 400%!

RE: How many seats at your office?

One seat, one designer, 80% SW, 20% Eng-Tips.

RE: How many seats at your office?

I have been told by my manager that 20% of my time on eng tips is 20% not doing work.

RE: How many seats at your office?

Your manager is correct ... but short sighted. The value of information learned from Eng-Tips often cannot be measured by simple hourly cost.

RE: How many seats at your office?

I agree with CBL.  The information that I have learned from Eng-Tips could not be put into a hourly cost.  I learned things that where not mentioned in Training courses and hear of problems that happen sometimes before they happen to me thus, saving me valuable time to solve them.

RE: How many seats at your office?

1 seat of SW 100% used 1 Project Engineer/designer. Best tool that ever happened to this company.
Eng-Tips site blocked at work, what a waste. I still keep up with what is posted one way or the other. Very worthwhile.

RE: How many seats at your office?

6 seats of SolidWorks.  1 doigle (dongle) for COSMOS, which 3 of us share.

RE: How many seats at your office?

4 seats, 4 Engineers
(2 @ 100%, and 2 @ 0.00%)

I even dream in Configurations.....

Config 1 - Brunette
Config 2 - Redhead
Config 3 - Blonde

RE: How many seats at your office?

Current company/turbine controls
12 seats: 7 ME's (100%), 4 drafters (1@95%/1@50%/1@25%/Checker@10%)(a lot of Acad legacy), 1 supervisor (occasional)

Last Company:
120 seats, probably 85%@ 100% utilization. A mix of Doc Control/ME's/Design drafters/mfg drafters/Mfg Engnrs. Since it took a three day weekend with all three IT guys and4 guys from our VAR to load new version of SW we always got the version when it closed out the serviice packs and went ot a new version. That way IT didn't have to constantly load new SP's. Of course, this was easier for IT, but it meant that most of the problems we had in, say SW2004, were answered by, "That was fixed in the 2005 version."

RE: How many seats at your office?

Only one seat for our entire engineering department: one engineer (95%) and one designer who refuses to learn it. I think my own productivity took a hugh jump when I moved away from Autocad. That's how I found time to look through all these threads.

RE: How many seats at your office?

We have three seats and four engineers - utilization %100 + %100 + %50 + %50 = %300, so we're legal, right?

RE: How many seats at your office?

2 Mechanical Enginers, 3 Designers & 1 Mold maker / 7 Seats / 45% Utilized

RE: How many seats at your office?

4 full time users (100% each from 3 drafters and an engineer) with 3 network licenses shared among about 6 users (each network license = 50% used).

Last job 6 AutoCAD seats used 100% by all.

I agree with CBL, this forum is an invaluable resource that cannot be viewed in dollars and cents (or pounds). It has helped me a great deal.
