UG and ICEM?

UG and ICEM?

UG and ICEM?

(OP)
What is the relationship between UG and ICEM? Is ICEM strictly 3rd party for UG, or are the advanced (and freeform) surfacing modules based on ICEM development?

I've been doing some research, and can't really figure out who is behind what.  I know that the 2 companies have some sort of business partnership, but it's unclear.

My question is directly related to a pending purchase.

Thanks!

UGS was at one time partnered with Alias, the popular surface modeler and I believe that's where UGS gained the technology for Shape Studio.  I could be wrong about that though.

The only company that's close to ICEM that has a relationship with UGS is ICEM CFD, which deals with computational fluid dynamics.  I'm guessing you were thinking of the folks who make ICEM Surf, the surface modeling software, of which UGS has no current affiliations or relationship according to their list of partners on UGS' site.  I cannot recall UGS ever having a relationship with ICEM (the surface modeling software) since I started using UGNX (v11).  I think Pro/E might have or maybe I-DEAS.

One of the reasons that I was asking, is that if I understand correctly, there is no API available for the free form surfacing.  I don't know for certain that this is true, but I'm interested from a programming and customization standpoint, and it was suggested to me that no API is available because of (possible) 3rd party development of the product.
