Holes @ Assembly level, but not in parts

Holes @ Assembly level, but not in parts

I cut some Hole wizard holes thru several components at the assembly level, but when I open up the individual parts the holes are not there. What am I doing wrong? I did this before and it worked fine..

You have to "edit part" within the assy to add the hole feature to the part.

RE: Holes @ Assembly level, but not in parts

It's common sense actually, If you perform an operation at the assembly level, the individual part isn't modified.  If you 'edit part' as Chris suggests, then the operation is performed at the piece part level.

I have many parts in context that have community holes going thru them all.. I'm sure in the past I was able to cut a single hole thru at the assembly level and when I open up any of the individual parts the holes are there.

You have to use the Hole Series function for that.

CBL, thanks, I just figured it out when you posted this. Thanks man. I wonder how hole series can do it but other types of cuts can not??

RE: Holes @ Assembly level, but not in parts

Quick Question on the hole series:

If I have two parts, one of them being a mirror of the other part. When I add the hole series at the assmbly level will it put it in both parts of just the parent? I would like to be able to add hardware to the mirror later in the process. What is my best way to attack this?

Thanks

Tim

RE: Holes @ Assembly level, but not in parts

Why not just try it and see? If the model parts & assy already exist, it should not take long.

CBL, thanks for that tidbit, First time I even looked at that. I've only been using SW for a year.
