Saran

Good morning,
I'm an aerospace engineer by profession, but have a chemical engineering question. I'm trying to acquire a material with two properties:

- HIGH capillary transport rates
- Good absorption qualities.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you for your time.

RE: Saran

I suggest giving a little more information. Based on what you have given I would suggest a paper towel.

Agreed, more information would be appropriate.  Paper towels are actually a great response - they meet the 2 criteria listed, but I need something that also resists hydrocarbons.

Basically, anything that:
- has high capillary transport rates
- good absorption
- resists hydrocarbons (gasoline)
- lightweight
- avaialble in fabrics/fibers/sheet form
-cheap

Those constitute the majority of my requirements.

RE: Saran

I'm curious about what it is you want to do. There are woven fabrics and needled felts made from glass or carbon fibers. These are not what is generally considered a membrane as meant on this forum.
