PUMP MATERIALS FOR FOOD PRODUCTS

PUMP MATERIALS FOR FOOD PRODUCTS

PUMP MATERIALS FOR FOOD PRODUCTS

(OP)

IS NI RESIST TYPE-2 SUITABLE IN ORDERTO HAND LIQUIDS LIKE OLIVE OIL, CHOCOLATE,.??
I KNOW AS SANITARY STANDARDS SAYS SANITARY PUMPS MUST BE MADE UP OF STAINLESS STEEL ( PARTS IN CONTACT WITH PRODUCT).

BUT I´VE READ IN THE NICKEL DEVELOPMENT INSTITUTE NI-RESIT COULD BE USED IN FOOD APPLICATIONS.
cOULD ANYONE HELP ME?

MANY THANKS IN ADVANCE

RE: PUMP MATERIALS FOR FOOD PRODUCTS

It is not hard and fast that you should use only SS pumps for sanitary application. Any material that will not shed particles and resists corrosion(in a general sense) can be used. When you compare the cost vis-a-vis the superior characteristics, SS may be cheap.

I AGREE WITH YOU ABOUT PRICES, BUT SS IS TOO HARD IN ORDER TO MACHINABILITY
IS THERE ANY DOCUMENT THAT SHOWS THATNIRESISTIS SUITABLE FOR FOOD APPLICATIONS?

RE: PUMP MATERIALS FOR FOOD PRODUCTS

Why is SS harder to machine than Ni-resist, Ni-resist is a lot tougher than 316 SS.

Thanks for your answers

Sorry hard is not right word,I wanted to say that  SS is more difficult to machine. They tends to bond the cutting tool. This material is unwilling to break.
So I think ni resist has better machinability than SS.
Then
is it suitable for food applications, like chocolate and olive oil, etc.??

RE: PUMP MATERIALS FOR FOOD PRODUCTS

Hi Gorkus
May i give some ideas?
For me, it maybe possible for if you can use the normal pump. Then, just insulate it with anti corrosion coatings and this will avoid the pump surface to be corroded. The impeller of your pump will easily built with SS.

RE: PUMP MATERIALS FOR FOOD PRODUCTS

What Whizz suggests is fairly common practice within the potable water industry, however the anti corrosive coatings have to be pre approved by the relevant authorities for use with the specific fluid this is usally acheived by testing.

I guess it will be the same if not more stringent in the food industry
