Electroplated CBN wheel and 300 series stainless

(OP)
We are looking to purchase CBN grinding wheels for one of are new grinders, but one of are suppliers said that CBN wheels cannot cut through 300 series due to it low Rockwell Hardness.  Does any one know of a CBN wheel being designed to cut 300 series stainless?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

RE: Electroplated CBN wheel and 300 series stainless

What is the HRC of the 300 series stainless? Normally CBN cutting wheel can do it.

ckozka, Diamond innovations has a chart at the following link describing CBN applications and grinding-If you need technical help I can provide an application engineering # for you if the chart does not give you the information you need-

RE: Electroplated CBN wheel and 300 series stainless

The problem with 300 series is the long stringy chip produced during grinding, which causes loading. CBN typically has not worked well on a cost per piece basis due to the loading and subsequent dressing needed to remove it. I would look at a vit bonded SiC wheel to do the job first. If you ever get into 400 series with a little hardness to it, then CBN will be an alternative for you.
