Seeking Information on looping a distribution system.
Seeking Information on looping a distribution system.
(OP)
I'm looking for information on the benefits of looping a distribution system vs dead-end water mains. I've tried to convince the planning board not to approve sub-divisions that have dead-end water mains. The Fire Chief has also supported the Department and expressed his reasons from a fire fighting position.

RE: Seeking Information on looping a distribution system.
1) The diameter of the pipes will be smaller
2) You will avoid the sedimentations and the decay of chlorine that occur at the end of pipe in dead end system.
3) The network will be more flexible for maintenance and operation
4) During fire flow, the demand will be high. If you are using dead end you have to size every pipe to carry the fire demand, while in closed loop the flow in the pipes will be distributed to reach the required demandat fire location.
