Load Rating Reinforced Concrete Pipes

Load Rating Reinforced Concrete Pipes

Colleagues:
I am looking for ways to load rate RCP that are larger than 36" in diameter. Maybe there are spreadsheets or softwares out there that I am missing. Thanks in advance.

RE: Load Rating Reinforced Concrete Pipes

Load rating of reinforced concrete pipes is done by the pipe maufacturer.  It forms a part of the pipe's specification.  The grade of the pipe should be marked on or cast into the unit on manufacture.  The load rating is dependant upon the grade of concrete utilised, the pipe wall thickness and the reinforcement quantity and location within the pipe structure.

Thanks for responding. What about old pipes that were installed over 20 years ago and recently inspected for deterioration. I am refering to load rating of in-service reinforced concrete pipes. Thanks again.

See if you can get a copy of the, "Concrete Design Manual," by the American Concrete Pipe Association.

Contact Amjad Waheed at the Ohio Department of Transportation.  He is in charge of load rating the structures in Ohio.  There was a 3 year contract that was let about 4 years ago that involved load rating of RCP.  He might be able to give you the spreadsheet that was used in load rating these RCPs.
