(OP)
anyone ever penetrate a drywall soffit at a 45 degree angle in an exposed spiral duct application?  architect is looking for a detail of the penetration.

RE: exposed duct through wall 45 degree angle

The sheet rock people can precut an eliptical hole in a piece of sheetrock, slide over the duct stub.  It will require some coordination.

Otherwise put this note on the drawing:

BEAT TO FIT, PATCH TO MATCH.

RE: exposed duct through wall 45 degree angle

Yes we have had a few instances on a project where the duct was installed as shown on the mechanical drawings penetrating a sheetrock wall partition exposed to view. (Not a fire rated wall!) We took some measurements of the actual instalation and fabricated escutcheons as required.

The penetration was typical of any other non fire rated penetration exposed to view.
