1553 twinax 2 lug connector to TNC connector cable

1553 twinax 2 lug connector to TNC connector cable

1553 twinax 2 lug connector to TNC connector cable

(OP)
Hi,

I have 2 devices that im trying to connect by 1553 interface.    One of the devices needs a TNC mating connection on it and the other device needs a 1553 twinax 2 lug mating connector.  I had this cable made up, however it didnt work.  Here's how the cable was put together.  the TNC just has a center conductor and a shielding ground.  The 1553 twinax connector has an inner conductor, an outer conductor and a shielding ground.  I had shorted the outer conductor and the shielding ground together on the 1553 twinax connector and put the inner conductor on the center pin.    So the TNC center conductor is common with the center conductor on the 1553 twinax connector.  The Shielding ground on the TNC is in common with the shielding ground and the outer conductor on the 1553 twinax connector.  Is this even possible to have these combination connectors on a cable?  What am i doing wrong?  Thanks for any help.

RE: 1553 twinax 2 lug connector to TNC connector cable

Try disconnecting the outer 'shielding ground' from the other 'outer conductor'. Connecting them doesn't sound like a good idea.

If it still doesn't work, maybe use a scope to see what the two wires are doing.

And then start checking all the settings (address, bus controller, etc.). There's a lot more variables in the settings than in the connections.

There's a very nice (essential) '1553 handbook that everyone has (by DDC if I recall correctly?).

The handbook is by ILC Data Device Corporation (DDC) and is called MIL-STD-1553 Designer's Guide. It has a section on Electrical and Layout Considerations.

Thanks for the handbook information.  I found that i was trying to route the 1553 to the wrong plug.  It should have been a 3 lug 1553 to a 2 lug 1553 connection.  The TNC plug was a video line.  The handbook should help for future reference.
