SWX surface cut

SWX surface cut

Please open the part file and how would you create a surface cut with the copied surfaces in it so that the part will look like the attached picture?

http://multiterra.mooload.com/file.php?file=files/030306/1141408974/aaa.zip

Our CAM operator doesn’t like the way I created the part and I would like to have your surfacing to compare. They always complain about the surface cuts I do with solid works saying they don’t match with the U&V of the customer’s part which is nicer and cleaner.

What I feel is still SWX is not powerful enough or doesn’t have enough tools to manipulate imported surfacing.

RE: SWX surface cut

Is it just me, or does that link lead to almost getting the file.

So much for trying to help.

Sorry for the trouble.
I’m new to this forum.

Is there any other way to upload the files?

RE: SWX surface cut

When you created the cuts to the solid did you use the surface to cut the solid? I would take a different approach on this part and use the surface to set-up planes and use a cookie cutter method of cutting your angles. Then apply the fillets to the hard edges.

Pick-up the modified file here:

Hi JK,
I think Mooload having technical problems.

Could you please upload to http://www.yourfilelink.com

Also please note that this is only one corner of a complex part. If I don’t use surface cut, it is impossible to match the all the variable fillets of the imported body since I don’t know the path and values.

mfdo

RE: SWX surface cut

Sorry. No dice.  We're still running SW2005.

RE: SWX surface cut

Try this: http://www.yourfilelink.com/get.php?fid=38997

It is saved in 2006 If you have an earlier version I will have to post a parasolid file instead. Let me know if you can get it.

The angled cuts are generated from the imported surface you supplied in the model. The radius is very close to what the surface is, but with a little tweaking you can get an exact surface representation to your imported surface. I also noticed and fixed a fillet on your imported surface that may have been giving you trouble also. I used the "delete face" command to fix it. Hope this helps you in creating a more robust model.

Best Regards,
Jon

Thanks JK, anyway there is a mismatch between the part and the surface. So to avoid that I think should use surface cut feature.

Checkout another corner of a part I’m trying to use this feature. Can anyone suggest anything other than surface cut, and for surface cut how ill you do it? It is only to check my work against some other professional user.

RE: SWX surface cut

In order for surface cut to work you must have the surface be larger than the solid you are trying to cut. you can achieve this by adding surface features to the imported surface. I will try to work on it a bit and see what I come up with.

Jon

RE: SWX surface cut

Here is what I came up with: http://www.yourfilelink.com/get.php?fid=39036

Again to use "cut with surface" the surface must be larger than the solid you are trying to cut. I took your extrude and purposely shrunk it so the surface intertects the solid. I also created a swept surface and knitted it to get the correct cutting surface.

Jon
