Failed To Update Registry - Message

Failed To Update Registry - Message

Failed To Update Registry - Message

(OP)
Does anyone have an answer as to why I get a Solidworks message that says:-

"Failed to update the system registry - please try using REGEDIT"

This occurs three times at each SW start up, but if I click on OK each time it disappears and the program will function flawlessly, I assumed it was to do with my Norton Anti-virus software, but I have since done a clean install with it disabled, and get exactly the same result.

RE: Failed To Update Registry - Message

I have encountered the same problem, and it does not appear to be related to SolidWorks.  (As an example, I have done a complete uninstall, along with deleting that part of the registry, and it doesn't fix the problem.)  It's more likely a Windows issue.

RE: Failed To Update Registry - Message

Which program is reporting the message?

Is that the entire message?

Are you running a system settings monitor of any kind?

Try turning of the Norton AV before starting SW ... just to see if the message still appears.

cheers

I just tried what you suggested, but it is just the same. It does not appear to have any adverse effects on the way SW operates, but there must be something not just right.

I am not entirely sure what you mean about a system settings monitor, but I do not know of any such programs running on my PC.

RE: Failed To Update Registry - Message

MS AntiSpyware Beta1 has "Real Time Protection" which monitors changes to system (registry) settings. Some anti-virus/spyware programs (WIndows Defender, Spybot Search & Destroy's "Tea Timer", Panda, etc) also monitor the settings.

They only block system changes if they are known to be (or suspected to be) bad or if specifically requested to do so. Any auto-blocked changes can usually be overidden & added to an "allowed" list.

Does the message have a header or title showing which program is displaying it?

cheers

RE: Failed To Update Registry - Message

Do you have an older version of SW on your pc? If so, did you recently uninstall it...or simply delete it? You may need to reinstall that older version, then completely uninstall. When finished, install 06.
