Cast component ejection

Cast component ejection

Cast component ejection

(OP)
Hi,

This is regarding "stress analysis or calculation of stress" for the cast component during ejction from the die.

We have a complex automotive component which is being casted in GDC (gravity die casting). For value engineering and other reasons, we are planning change it to PDC (Pressure die casting).

The die is made of  6 parts. 1 top core, 4 side cores and 1 base plate at the bottom.

The comoponent is made of aluminium. Currently, the process is as follows. The hot metal at around 600deg C is poured in to the GDC die . Then around 300-350deg C (Approx it takes 5-7 min), the top core ejects first, then 4 side cores eject and finally from the bottom base plate, ejector pins moves up and ejects the component.

During the ejection of the component from the die, we need to calculate the stress generated in the component due to cooling as well due to sticking with the die. They are applying lubricant in the die to minimize the sticking.I will get the details about the lubricant.

I presume from the physcis of the problem, the stress generated in the component during ejection from the die depends up on the following factors,

1) Thermal contraction co-effecient of component and die.
2) co-efficnet of friction to represent the equivalent effect of sticking.
3) contact area with the die
4) draft angles provided in the component, etc

Then this calculation or FE analysis will also be repeated for PDC component.

In this regardI couldn't get much references for calculation of stresses. Can you help me in this regard?

Do you know, any references for calculation of stress for the ejection of the component from die? If so, kindly share.

Regards,
