Connection problem

Connection problem

Connection problem

(OP)
I am having some difficulty connecting three components of a linkage together:

Part 1 ends in a clevis with a pin

Part 2 is a thin plate and has a hole and a curved slot in it.

The mating connection between the pin of part 1 and the hole in part 2 is a straight forward pin connection - this connects ok.

Part 3 ends in a rod with clevis that contains a roller.

The clevis must sit either side of part 2 and roller must be able to roll along the curved slot in part 2.

Note that all parts must be able to move relative to one another.
These components form part of a Stevenson valve linkage for a steam engine if anyone is familiar with that type of mechanism.

After connecting parts 1 and 2 how should I connect the roller to the slot?

RE: Connection problem

Based on your description, my first reaction would be to suggest a slot connection.

You would need a datum point at the center of your roller, and a datum curve at the center of your slot on part 2 before hand.

Hope it works out smile

justkeepgiviner - thanks, I realised later that it was a slot coonnection but thanks for the tip about the datum curve along the centre of the slot - it worked a treat.
