Dynamic Depth Cueing help!!

Dynamic Depth Cueing help!!

Dynamic Depth Cueing help!!

(OP)
Does anyone know if DDC (Dynamic Depth Cueing) is available for Solidworks?
I am trying to make the switch to from Catia to Solidworks but getting a little discouraged.  I am very accustomed to using "Depth effect" in Catia V5.  I find DDC a great tool for editing and visualization.  I can’t believe Solidworks does not have this capability.  Someone please tell me if it exists within the program or maybe a plug-in exists somewhere.

Thanks

I'm not sure what you mean by DDC.  Is it like prespective?  If so SW has that.  Go to VIEW/DISPLAY/PERSPECTIVE.

There may be another acronym, not sure, but depth cueing (effect) allows you to go through parts by zooming in on the object.  Once inside the object you can select internal components for editing or maybe you just want to quickly zoom inside for a visual checks.

RE: Dynamic Depth Cueing help!!

Well, you could do this with the camera found in the "camera & lights folder" in the feature tree. I'm not sure the camera is the best tool for your use.

SW also has dynamic sectioning which allows you to pull sections through the model in realtime and inspect the componant fit up (I use this alot).  You can save sections as views and pull them up at any time.

There is also teh ability to hide/show componants and set transparency of componants.

Display states might also be useful to you.

I can't think of a SW tool exactly as you describe but the methods above will get you where you want to go, I think.  Others here may have some more ideas.

RE: Dynamic Depth Cueing help!!

What version of SW are you using?

If you RMB on a face of an assy or part, then Select Other, you will be given a choice of faces which are available for selection "under" the selection point that you chose.

SW05 & later, hides the face clicked on so that internal components faces are more readily seen & selected.

It is always frustrating when switching from one modelling program to another. Having to get used to new terminology, tollbar layouts & feature creation methods can be a real PITA.

You can also make faces & parts transparent, or use wireframe, or sections to quickly investigate a model.

Hang in there ... it will get better. Remember though, Catia is a high end system, whereas SW is still striving to climb out of the mid-range, so don't expect it to be able to do everything that Catia can.

cheers

Thanks for the fast response gentlemen.  I will give everything suggested a try and settle with the most efficient method..  I realize that I will have to go through a transition period.  Habits are hard to break.
