Welding compatibility F11 Vs A105N

Welding compatibility F11 Vs A105N

(OP)
I need to know whether is possible to weld a valve made of ASTM A182 F11 with pipe in ASTM A105N.
In this case what filler metal can be suitable?
Probably we must issue a new WPS/PQR in order to qualify this welded bead.

Thanks

C.

RE: Welding compatibility F11 Vs A105N

The reply to your question is yes. What is ASTM A 105N? There is an ASTM A 105, and this is what I would presume you meant in your post.

You have two options for weld filler metal to join A-182 Grade F11 to A-105 forged pipe. The ASTM A-182 Grade F11 is an ASME Section IX, P-No 4 material, while the ASTM A-105 is a P-No 1 material. You can use E7018 H4 or E8018 B2 H4 electrodes. These filler metals are for the shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) process.

The N in A-105N refers to "normalized" heat treated condition.

A procedure previously qualified on Group P No.4 (F11)material may be used to qualify the dissimilar weld provided all other essential variables of the previous PQR are used in the new WPS for the dissimilar weld (refer to QW-424).
