Notebook for NX 2 / NX 3

Notebook for NX 2 / NX 3

(OP)
Hi,

I want to buy a new notebook, but I cant really find any info of what graphiccards works with NX on notebooks.

Checked already the support site, but they list only cards for desktops as far as I can see.

Does the ATI Mobility Radeon X 700 work ?

Thanks for any help on this,

Sebastian

Look at Dell M70, it looks like a real CAD station !

RE: Notebook for NX 2 / NX 3

Some of my fellow students have that ATi card and use NX2/3. Works fine.

Thanks for that info,

looked at the Dell M70 - looks good, but I was actually looking to buy one with a 17' screen.

RE: Notebook for NX 2 / NX 3

I have a Sager 9800 series with an Nvidia QuadroPro video card. With 2G RAM, UG looks EXACTLY like it does on my laptop as it does at work on the workstation.

$3600 total.

You can look for the HP Business class. It isn't a brick like the Sager and other 17" gaming laptops, which is what mine is essentially.

Thanks for all that info,

will let you know, once I got the new laptop and how it works.

RE: Notebook for NX 2 / NX 3

Yeah, some gaming cards will work with UG/NX but once you have a problem that is caused by this type of graphics card, you're up the creek without a paddle.  UGS doesn't support gaming cards and there are plenty of people out there finding that out the hard way.  UGS doesn't say this just to make people spend more money, it's because gaming video cards are NOT made for CAD.

Stick to the list of certified cards and you'll be fine.

The UG seats at work are QuadroPro, so you cannot go wrong with that. The first Sager I got had some ATI, but like NKWHEELGUY said... it sucked. The card couldn't handle it at all. Then they happen to come out with the QP card and I was in heaven!

RE: Notebook for NX 2 / NX 3

Just a note about graphics cards.  This is straight from the System Information concerning graphics cards being retired starting with NX4:

The following hardware will be retired in this release. These models will no longer be tested or supported.

All configurations with the following graphics adapters:

Diamond FireGL2, Sonic Blue FireGL2, ATI FireGL2, nVIDIA Quadro2 MXR, nVidia Quadro2 PRO, or nVidia Quadro2 EX
