Design Journal crashed please help

Design Journal crashed please help

Design Journal crashed please help

(OP)
I created a 10 page document in the Design Journal inside a Part Model file. The Model and Journal Document were saved after completion many times. Then I started a new Assembly Model and I immediately received a message saying the Jounal Document has errored and will close. I then tried to re-open the Journal but it would not. So I shut down SolidWorks, ReStarted and open the Part Model. I opened the Journal but found ony a small portion of a single page. I lost the entire rest of the document. I know I did multiple save prior to crashing. I then shut down SolidWorks again and opened Word up directly and it says failed to recover document.
There must be a way to recover this document...When you save the journal file where is it saving to? Please Help many hours will be lost...
Tom.

What version of M$ Word are you using? I believe SW does not play nice with the 2003 version.

I believe the DJ is stored as an integral part of the SW file, so unless you saved a separate copy while in Word, you may be SOL.

Do you have the SW auto-backup option enabled? If so you should be able to retrieve a version from there Check Tools > Options > System Options > Backups to see what settings & location is being used.

Unfortunately my backup was set to 1 per day, So I didn't capture it. because it was just 30min ago when this happened. What I don't understand is even though the design journal is integral to SoliWorks file I didn't save the file after receiving the error message. But I did save the completed file many times prior to the error. So If I didn't save how did the saved file get corrupted??? When I restarted SW I loaded the saved file. It should not have been written over on my harddrive just because the DJ crashed...

How about the auto-backups and/or Saves from within Word?
Word also has auto-save settings, check those to see if you were lucky.

My Office Word save autorecovery info is set for every 10 min, but when I checked the hd location the most recent backup is yesterday, I don't understand, maybe the integral Word inside of SW does not trigger the Office Word autosave as it should. Although I can access the SW Word autosave settings from within the DJ Word Tools options. I guess I'm SOL. fortunately I printed the document just before the crash. I bet somewhere deep within the bowels of My PC or server lies a copy of this document somewhere..Maybe a systems guru can shed some light on this....when a file gets overwritten isn't it still actually on the drive???
