Methanol seals, seats and packing

Methanol seals, seats and packing

Methanol seals, seats and packing

(OP)
I have referenced numerous on-line fluid compatibility charts for seals, seats and packing material compatible with natural gas/hydrocarbon and methanol(methyl Alcohol).

Almost every chart i look at is contradicting another.

Any know where to get a reliable list of materials compatible with methanol and CNG?

RE: Methanol seals, seats and packing

I usually go with the dupont elastomers guide.
www.dupontelastomers.com/Tech_Info/chemical.asp

I have also used the Proco guide at www.procoproducts.com

Look at the contradicting data closely it may be at different temperatures.

We deal with cold methanol and find that buna rubber works well and viton does not.

RE: Methanol seals, seats and packing

hi,
some of the seats  compatible with methanol are nitrile neoprene  and EPDM as long as the temperature is not above 100 degrees centigrade
