Importing Unigraphics file into AutoCAD 2000

Importing Unigraphics file into AutoCAD 2000

(OP)
Hello,
I work for the repair division of my company and we use AutoCAD 2000 for our drafting purposes.  We also have a manufacturing division and they use Unigraphics.
We are all working with the same parts, but we are having a hard time using the files that come out of the Unigraphics package.
I have noticed that AutoCAD can import .sat & .3ds files for use as 3d models.  However, the Unigraphics cannot export either of these.
We have tried exporting as .dxf files, but they do not open well in AutoCAD.
I would even be happy with being able to get a couple of 2D views of the parts used in Unigraphics and recreate the part in AutoCAD!

Any and all suggestions for getting a usable file from UG to AutoCAD are appreciated.

Ted

RE: Importing Unigraphics file into AutoCAD 2000

You will need to export the 2D using "2D exchange" in the UG export. Exporting as DXF tries to retain 3D info and it can become a mess at times. 2D exchange will output flat info from the UG drafting mode.
