Tools Options Summary for 2006

Tools Options Summary for 2006

(OP)
Since I'm kind of new here, this Tools Options summary is something I've been doing every release since 2001.  I usually post it to my website and notify folks on comp.cad.solidworks.

Anyway, it's just what it sounds like.  I go through all the Tools Options settings and give a little detail about each one.  It's a 35 page pdf.  New this year are the Export Options which are not found in Tools Options, but deftly hidden from view in the Save dialog, along with some sketch and view settings which are not in the place where you expect to see settings.

Anyway, I hope someone finds this useful:

go to the Rules of Thumb link, and it's the first one in the list.

I second that.  Thanks Matt, and welcome.

RE: Tools Options Summary for 2006

I don't want to be picky here but the title inside the pdf document is still Tools/Options Settings SW2005. A bit confusing.

Welcome, Matt.

I just assumed you had always been lurking about under a different handle.

Much nicer than Usenet, this place.  No Cliff or JB.  Bliss.

I could be the world's greatest underachiever, if I could just learn to apply myself.

Guess I'll have to take a look when I get home, work has us limited to acrobat 4.0 and it won't open it.

I Matt, another star!

It as been a long time since your website is a reference for me as a SW user.

So, what makes you, finaly, give us the pleasure of your company in this forum?

I never participated in comp.cad.solidworks because it seems to me that people there are more willing to argue insted of helping each other.

Regards

macPT,

I started following eng-tips because I was seeing more and more references to it, and the content has improved a lot since I first checked in.  Folks here are knowledgable, friendly, and the format seems to ensure/enforce politeness.  I think the biggest driver that made me sign up was one day I got a huge number of hits on my website showing eng-tips as the referrer, and I noticed I was listed in some faqs.

As for c.c.sw, I understand what you're saying, but to me the conflict doesn't necessarily diminish the content, in fact, sometimes it's nice to get opposing points of view, if you can filter through the ocasional mudslinging.  Plus, being real usenet, if you want to exclude some of the more blatant offenders, that's easy enough if you've got real newsreader software.  I haven't abandoned the other, but this makes a nice complement.

Thanks again to all!

Matt

Very nicely done and greatly appreciated.  Glad to see you over here; we tend to be a little more civilized than comp.cad.solidworks.

RE: Tools Options Summary for 2006

Matt,

Thanks!  Wish I had this yesterday when I completed the migration to my new machine.  It was in the corner of my mind that this tool existed, but I planned to leave no trace of registry or other copies in the new install/machine.

Downloading now. ..Thanks for putting in the time to provide this.

RE: Tools Options Summary for 2006

Great job Matt, as usual. I used your 2005 Tools/Options document as a guide when I setup the software sometime back. It hepled me a great deal.

Hoping to use the 2006 doc sometime soon. I really appreciate you sharing this info with us.

Thank You.
