Release coat on SS tube

Release coat on SS tube

Release coat on SS tube

(OP)
I'm looking for different release coating on the SS tube/mandrel that is hollow and 1.5"dia

1. The release coat needs to withstand 250C
2. The opearation is done in class 1000 clean room.

Currently we are applying a ormocer(organically modified ceramics...)
The used mandrels cannot be recoated and need to be scrapped.
Any suggestions??

Thanks

RE: Release coat on SS tube

Release from what? Looks like I would need more information about operating conditions to take a crack at this. How hard does the coating need to be? What chemical resistance does it need, if any? Does it need excellent adhesion to the stainless steel or just OK? Does the temperature cycle up and down so that the coating has to stay adhered after multiple cycles of expansion and contraction? Does it need to withstand wear/abrasion?

Thanks

1. The SS tube will go through temp cycle (for Eg: 60C, 100C 150C 250C and back to 100C) Totoal time will be approx 2hrs

2. The release coating's function is to release a polymer tube that is coated on the SS tube (The release coat to be in between SS and Polymer)
3. Good adhesion is required
4. The SS tube will not be interfacing with any moving parts, so abrasion is minimal

Thanks

RE: Release coat on SS tube

Thanks for the extra data. Well, I would try PTFE. YOu can buy it as tubes or tape, the latter with silicone adhesive that will take the temperatures. Of course PTFE has excellent release (I avoided saying Teflon because that's a duPont tradename that confusingly covers 3 or more different polymers so it's clearer to say PTFE). You can find such tapes using Google. I have used them in the past, from this place http://www.cshyde.com/tapecat.htm

Good luck.

Thanks Demon3. I forgot to mention, that I'm looking for a seamless coating. Any kind of seam will be passed to the polymer tube which takes the shape of the SS mandrel

Any idea's on a metallic coating like TiN etc...???

Thanks

RE: Release coat on SS tube

Yes, I assumed that, and it will happen with tape unless you take measures to prevent it. With a PTFE tube it will be OK though.

RE: Release coat on SS tube

How about heat shrinkable tubing of some persuasion. I've used it several times tough not quite to the temperature you require.  It will definitely take the shape and finish of your mandrel.
I would give these people a call.

RE: Release coat on SS tube

There are numerous release coat maufactures that can help you like Freekote or Mclube. Teflon based will work well or silicone (silane) based. These can be sprayed or wiped on.
