Split Lines

Split Lines

Split Lines

(OP)
Does anyone know of a method of generating multiple split lines from a single sketch?

For example, we use split lines in FEA to represent the contact between the bolt hole and the backing plate. Currently we have to create a split line for each hole seperately, which can be time consuming where we may have 20 or more bolt holes.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance

RE: Split Lines

I don't know of a way from a single sketch. Can you do a split line on one hole and copy/pattern the features?

RE: Split Lines

Nope - man, I really thought there was an easier way.  I was hoping somebody would answer BandH's question a little better.

RE: Split Lines

You can't do it all in one feature, but you can extrude a set of surfaces from your split line sketch and then generate your split lines from these extruded surfaces using the intersection option in the split line command.

RE: Split Lines

If this is something you're going to do regularly, I would edit the revolved profile of the hole, and save it so that it includes a small break around the hole.  Maybe a line at a very slight angle, because a tiny step   cbr might adversely affect the mesh.

If you save the hole with the altered profile to your design library, you can reuse it and have holes already set up for FEA.  Of course that will make your 2D drawings a mess.

Possibly putting a CSK with a very shallow angle around the holes would be a fast way to do it.

Thank's for all the responses - I had tried a few different options already, but doesn't look possible.

I'm going to submit it as an enhancement request and hopefully they will inlcude it in a future release. If anyone else feels like submitting it too it might help push it along!!

Regards, and thanks again.
