Defining Material Properties in Analysis Mode

Defining Material Properties in Analysis Mode

Defining Material Properties in Analysis Mode

(OP)
Hello,
I have a CATIA V5, and I am attempting to analyze a frame for a 'segway' type vehicle we are designing. I just was going to put a few distributed loads on it from the person and maybe a force from the wheels that would be applied on the frame as well. Is there any way to define material properties so I can model it? I am very new to this and doing it for a Senior Design Project. Any detailed instructions would be helpful, thank you

Jason

RE: Defining Material Properties in Analysis Mode

Hello there,

Yes u can define the material for the geometry before analysis.

Right click on the part/assembly parts and say edit form the contextual menu and open the part in a new window.

Now the part opens in the part module.

Here you can define the material properties for the part including the mechanical properties.

Regards,
Ashvanth.

Hello, I am having some trouble with exactly what you mean, i can right click and go to edit and there are several properties but they're all locked and im unable to change them

I Am in the PArt creator now and I just dont understand where to go.

Can you show us a picture?  You'll need a hosting sight, and then post the URL to the picture.

RE: Defining Material Properties in Analysis Mode

1. Make sure you are in the Part Design Workbench
2. Select the part body (or part) and then hit the apply material icon (looks like a sphere  with an arrow pointing to  a wireframe cube).
3. Choose the appropriate material (try Metal - Aluminium for a test)
4. Apply Material
5. OK!

You should be all set now...

Hello,
I managed to obtain the material type, just put it in as general steel now. But when I go to do the mesh, I have this tubular Steel with wall thickness of .06", and I can't get the mesh down that low without it crashing. Is that why I'm getting just a BLUE stress distribution? there are no colors just blue? Perhaps I could send my Analysis and CAT file to someone who really knows how to work the program. I also have AIM to converse with someone if possible.

Thank You,
Jason

Jason,

1. What are the other dimensions of the pipe (Length, Diameter)?
2. Perhaps you should try shell elements rather than solids?

1.25" square tube steel with either like a 3/16" wall thickness, right now its .06", since i already have the basic design in CAD is there any way to get this to work? I'd assume im getting blue is bcause the mesh  size is too big?
