Instrumentation
Instrumentation
(OP)
Hi
Could you please advise me, what is the role of a instrumentation and control engineer in
1) oil and Gas industry
2)Process Insustry
At present, I work in a consulting engineering company, but
I deal in only power distribution in commercial buildings same stuff, just keep writing specs and nothing else and I beleive not much jobs in power also, so wanted to start something so that atleast could apply for a jr. position.
Thanks for your time.

RE: Instrumentation
A gross simplification would be measuring the pressure in a process with a sensor, transmitting the pressure information to the control room where a controller will send a signal to a valve to control the position and as a result control keep the pressure at the desired level. It sounds simple, but it quickly gets involved. I worked on a paper machine with aproximately 2000 loops, or connections from tha control computer to sensors, valves, switches and solenoids on the machine. Another aspect is data transmission and logging.
The list goes on.

RE: Instrumentation
But you are wrong thier are lots of jobs in power for buildings right now, but you may need to move to were the work is. Instrumentation engineers do make better money with steady work.
