Can I convert solidworks assemblies to files able to be opened in catia v5????

RE: CONVERT SW 2006 TO CATIA V5

Yes, most solids programs can read Parasolid, IGES, DXF, etc, but they will not retain any of the features as created in SW. It is up to the import module of Catia to do the coversion.

The Holy Grail of true conversion from one modeller to another is not available yet.

cheers

Thanks for that do you think anyone is working on the 'Holy Grail'??? It will be a great tool when its released!

RE: CONVERT SW 2006 TO CATIA V5

CBL - even once that Grail comes, I'm really doubting that it can incorporate each and every function from one modeler to the next - like design tables?

RE: CONVERT SW 2006 TO CATIA V5

Well, solidworks can read Pro/E files with features but it doesn't always work, and sometimes the geometry doesn't match. Simple extrudes and revolves work well enough but complex lofts and sweeps do not. Sometimes there is not equilvalent feature or option for a feature there to recreate it.

So even in the future, I don't think there ever will be the ability read features reliably.
