WINCH CAPACITY CALCULATION
WINCH CAPACITY CALCULATION
(OP)
I AM TRYING TO CALCULATE THE LINE PULL OF A WINCH DRIVEN BY
A HYDRAULIC MOTOR WITH A OUTPUT TORQUE OF 4022NM AND A DRUM
DIAMETER OF 300MM WHAT IN KGS WOULD THE WINCH LIFT
A HYDRAULIC MOTOR WITH A OUTPUT TORQUE OF 4022NM AND A DRUM

RE: WINCH CAPACITY CALCULATION
Assuming direct drive and on gear loss
RE: WINCH CAPACITY CALCULATION
4022 X 90% (mechanical efficiency assumed) divided by effective radius of capstan (in metres) 0.15 divided by acceleration due to gravity 9.81 mtrs/sec squared
Therefore 4022 x 90% / .15 / 9.81 = 2459.94 KG

RE: WINCH CAPACITY CALCULATION
While I agree with boo1 and here to chill, your capacity to lift will be limited by the tensile strength of the cable, also bear in mind as the cable wraps onto the winch drum the torque requirement to lift will also increase.
Can you provide more details like speed of lift, cable strength etc, remember also that when starting to lift the cable as to accelerate the load from rest.

You may not get a response from leep, as I note that OP date was Dec 19 2001, and leep has not visited the site since then!

Try 2 x π x mean radius x number of turns
Good Luck
