RE: Good Info On A Wide Range Of Subjects

Yes, as bridges go the transporter bridge is truly weird.

It's located about 50 miles from me, though I've never used it.

The truly brave sometimes have the opportunity of walking across using the walkway right at the top.

RE: Good Info On A Wide Range Of Subjects

Hey, slideruleera - You've provided so many links recently to great stuff...I'm wondering if you ought to put together a series of FAQ's - perhaps each with its own topic/subject and post them in appropriate forums throughout Eng-Tips.  These could be simply a series of subject/link  subject/link.....Just a thought.

Well, lets make it 5, old man. (according to your name I suppose you are, hehehehe) But, to be serious, thanx for the link. Interesting stuff, like always.

RE: Good Info On A Wide Range Of Subjects

hear, hear ...

i particularly liked the reference (in the trasnporter bridge) to the "highway" that leads to the bridge ...
the B4237 ...

but then you'd have to know that B roads in the UK (not England, 'cause the bridge is in Wales) are scarsely highways (more like "waggon ways", but still fun to drive).

RE: Good Info On A Wide Range Of Subjects

Near Freeport, Texas, they used to have a bridge across the Intracoastal Canal that was essentially a barge that was floated in and out of place by cables- being around it all the time, it never seemed very special, and perhaps that way with some of these other bridges.  But come to think of it, I've never seen another one like it.

It seems an awfully long ways to pick a bridge up like that- did they ever think to make one that submerged below the water instead?
