GMAW Settings for vertical up usid .45 Solid wire Argon c25

(OP)
Ok guys by no means am i the best welder out there
but i seem to have a hard time with Vertical up, solid wire. i am using argon gas C25
I can do it no problem with stick, or flux core wire ...
but solid is giving me a heck of a time
Settings are 170 amps
wire feed 145
i figure this should be low enough but still the bead is convex , can't keep it flat
anyone have suggestions?
thanks greatly appreciated

RE: GMAW Settings for vertical up usid .45 Solid wire Argon c25

If you have GMAW capability, than you of course have FCAW. FCAW is far smoother than GMAW-more stable arc in any position. It is favorable to vertical, and will run a good weave. As far as your machine setup, I have an ESAB, your settings sound like Miller or Hobart?

Anytime you are running a 'mig' process vertical, like any process you want your current down to it's least concievable ranges-filler metal/versusmaterial thickness. It is hard for me to tell you exactly where to put your machine settings, you'll have to play with that.

BUT DEFINITELY GET FCAW WIRE, it will change what is happening drastically. Since you already have some argon, try running DUAL SHIELD wire, if I remember it can be run with either 75/25, or maybe it is straight CO2. You'll want to check into the shielding gas, don't quote me.

But FCAW comes self shielding of course, so you don't need gas. But I prefer to run it dual shield, awesome penetration, beautiful crisp welds.

I run Dualshield with 100% CO2 at 35-40 cfh.
