In one thread it was published a request regarding the short circuit calculation. In that thread BJC sent a¨*pdf file with the article from GE Industrial Power Systems Data Book named "DC system short-circuit calculations".

Heres three I googled up.  Try googling Battery systems and navy.  Submarines have been studied a long time, they have potential for some bad DC faults.
As I remember DC faults start at one level and increase.  It's an R-L circuit. Increasing fault currents and the arcing of DC current require special breakers.
