laplink?

laplink?

laplink?

(OP)
anyone have any experience with laplink?
I have an installation of laplink that  i use to control another computer remotely so i can accsss some drive monitoring software
it works fine with all other software dos based as well as windows however when i open the .exe file for this application it opens on the host computer then crashes and the guest computer(the one i am looking through) just disconnects.
v3.1

RE: laplink?

I once used DeskLink, same people, just remote control, but win2k broke it.  Ever since I've used VNC, now Tight VNC and don't have any trouble with it.  Even better than LapLink, it's free; but is essentially just remote control with a bit of capability to do copy/paste between the machines.

RE: laplink?

I used laplink a long time ago and now I use VNC also.  I'm very happy with VNC and I'll have to check out Tight VNC.

RE: laplink?

I used to use LL almost daily but that was in DOS land.

I vote for Tight VNC too.  Good stuff.

thanks lads vnc seems like a great program works well with everything excep the one that crashed on lap link and it crashes on this too?

RE: laplink?

How are you linking these two comps, i.e. please describe the data path in its entirety.

RE: laplink?

the system i want to set up is  via modem
but with laplink i tried with a parallel cableon anothercompter no go
i then downloaded the latest version of laplink and tried it at home over my wireless network the same happened
and with the same set up vnc crashed also
the only suspicion that i have it is something liknked with the fact that the program that i am opening doesnt seem to want to open in any mode other than full screen no matter what i set it to in properties
occasionally i get an error message on the computer holding the program that the nvdt has encounterd an error??

thanks for the help so far

RE: laplink?

Okay since you've tried it with multiple different media types it does sound like the program you are trying to run is the problem.  It is probably not using standard system calls that LL is dependant on... cry

Sometimes you can create a rule for a program in Windoz that forces it to conform or wraps it in a conforming shell.
For instance makes it live in an 800X600 window even though your actual screen is 1024X768.

You might give that a try.
