'Petaling' of a tube
'Petaling' of a tube
(OP)
Hi
Could anyone offer advice for the following (read in conjuction with the image below):
I have a tube that is created via 3 stages. Firstly a shape is punched as per stage 1 (with 6 points). This has been created using the normal feature/create/protrusion. At stage 2 the blank is rolled/formed as shown with a slight gap between the two meeting faces (but still forms a true cylindrical shape). This has been created using feature/create/tweak/toroidal bend. Stage 3 however is causing me problems. I want to 'petal' the 'spikes' to the centre, keeping the cross sectional profile with the circumferential radii as shown (so i dont end up with a perculiar hexagonal shape when looking end-on). I am playing with 'spinal bend' but not 100% sure whether im in the right place...
I want to emulate the method in which the tube is formed in production, rather than cutting a solid to resemble the final article (if this is at all possible).
Any help would be appreciated. By the way im working in dark ages...using Pro/E 2000i !!! The only floating module option I have is Pro/SURFACE.

You should still have Pro Sheetmetal. This would do what you want.
Not using Pro Sheetmetal, why not just make your pipe, add a solid end and create a cut as per your sketch. Or you can create 1 slice and pattern it 60 degrees.
If you are having something fab out of house, most times you just show the end result, let the contractor figure out how to give you what you want.

i.e. start with the flat, notch out the petals, bend them (all at once possibly) and then bend the whole thing using the toroidal bend.
Good luck!

The Pro/SHEETMETAL option seems unaccessible so i assumed we do not have licencing. Will dig a little deeper into finding whether we do have access.
If anybody has any more ideas be sure to keep them coming...
Much appreciated

To see the options that came with your ProE, go to HELP-> Technical Support Info.

Managed to do it the first way in the end similar to the way Justkeepgiviner had suggested. Petals are all bent at once using spinal bend and then the whole thing is toroidal bent. The middle part represents a small weld (added after).
