I am doing a torsional study of several gearbox components and am attempting to use Ansys design space to compare different designs. Suspicious of some of the results I was obtaining, I modeled a simple cylinder 8 inches in diameter and 12 inches long with an applied moment (35000 ft-lbs) at one end and a fixed support at the other and found that Ansys is showing 4x the deflection that I get from a simple TL/JG calculation. I have checked my math several times hoping to find a simple math error and have verified part dimensions, units, material properties, etc. in Ansys to no avail. Does anyone have any ideas? For reference, when applying the moment to the simple cylinder, ansys is telling me the maximum deflection (at the od of the end to which the moment is being applied) is 4.49 x 10e-03 in. I cut the moment to 8750 ft-lbs and the deflection decreased as expected (1.12e-03 in). I can't imagine that Ansys would let an error such as this slip through the cracks. but I cannot find any errors in any other calculations... if anyone could run a quick simulation to check max deflection, I would greatly appreciate it....

I figured it out...(grabbing the inches deflection in my worksheet formula rather than the radians and it happened to be a 4" radius, hence the 4x error...
