Hydrogen Storage

Hydrogen Storage

Hydrogen Storage

(OP)
We’re going to install H2 Storage as a back-up H2 for PSA H2 users. Does anyone have experience with such design including H2 stored conditions, countermeasures for diffusion , need of H2 booster ..etc

Any help is highly appreciated

Cheers

RE: Hydrogen Storage

How big is the backup you need?
In what time must the backup be in operation after the PSA goes offstream?
What's the pressure of the H2 you need?

Cryotechnic

Total storgae will be about 1 tone to supply users 87 kg/hr for 5 hrs then to 61 kg/hr for 7 hrs
with min of 37 brag

cheers

RE: Hydrogen Storage

You have 2 options:

1. Install backup cilinderspack/trailer and a H2 compressor and compress a part of the H2 product from the PSA in the backup cilinders.

2. Install a backup cilinderpack/trailer who will be supplied by an gascompany (like Linde or AirProducts)

With option 1 you have to invest yourself in expensive hardware. (cilinderpack or trailer and a H2 compressor). Because your working with H2, the costs will be high.(special materials, safety)

With option 2 you rent the trailer from your supplier. You don't have to invest in the filling part, the H2 compressor. It keeps it more simple and more cheap.

To make the discission in option 1 or option 2 you have to consider how often the PSA goes offstream. How often will you use the backup installation.

An other thing is: Do you get permission to install a pressurised H2 backup installation on your premises?
I'll advice you to ask you local authorities what the rules are for that.
A large volume of pressurised H2 is different then producing H2 onsite with a PSA-unit.

Good luck
Cryotechnic.

RE: Hydrogen Storage

Hydrogen rules are quite different in various locals.
I would recomend against you compressing some of your own H2 and storing it.  The equipment is available, but expensive and difficult, though very reliable.  How long are you having to store?  Months, or years?

RE: Hydrogen Storage

962 kgh of H2 @ 25C and 37BARG is around 318 ACM3. If 37 Barg is your minimum supply pressure, you will have to store 318 ACM3 at 74 barg. That's a lot of bullets.

All Thank you for you replies
For duration of storing, it should be available all the time in case H2 PSA trips as to keep supplying H2 to downstream users.
Compressing some H2 from the PSA and storing the compressed H2 in storage is the way to go as you "EdStainless" recommended

For geordie87:
Good rough calculation, can you give estimate of bullets from past application of H2 storing facility

Thank you again for all and I'm waiting your opinions

Cheers
