How to plot data from a cylinder to a plane

How to plot data from a cylinder to a plane

How to plot data from a cylinder to a plane

(OP)
Hi,
i'm using Ansys to analyze stress on a combustor (represented as a cylinder of shell63 elements) of an aircraft engine.
My trouble is:
How can i represent (in postprocessing), the stress distribution on the cylinder of the combustor, on a plane, represented by the same cylinder, "cut" along its height and streched in a "planar" view. In other words, if (x,teta,z) are the axes of the cylindrical reference system on the combustor(where x is the constant radius of the cylinder, and z is its symmerty axe), i'd need to represent the stress distribution in a cartesian (x,y) reference system where x correspond to the "linearized" circumference and y is the cylinder height.

RE: How to plot data from a cylinder to a plane

I don't know it it's possible in Ansys but surely in Matlab, if you write the results in a vector (*dim) and then write this vector to a file (*mwrite). You can then inport that file in Matlab as a 2x2 matrix an plot it as a colour map.

Regards,
Alex

You _could_ try setting the dsys to the cylindrical local-coordinate system aligned with your cylinder.  I don't guarantee anything, and be prepared to issue a dsys,0 command if the display looks totally screwed up.
