tunnel lining penetration

tunnel lining penetration

tunnel lining penetration

(OP)
A project we are working on requires a penetration through a existing concrete tunnel lining.  The tunnel is in rock we are drilling a vertical shaft to the required elevation.  the problem is that there is approx 20' of head above the tunnel.  How can we limit the amount of water flowing into the tunnel?

RE: tunnel lining penetration

can you plug the tunnel in the vicinity of the penetration and then construct the shaft?  Once you have constructed it, remove the temporary plugs.

No the tunnel's primary use is for a commuter train...the ID is 16'

RE: tunnel lining penetration

it might be possible to grout in a ring around the proposed shaft area and reduce infiltration.  your geotech could answer that question

RE: tunnel lining penetration

Call a few well drillers for advise. All else fails, Call Tri-State Well drillers in Minnesota. I have used them for this type of construction in the past. Sorry i don't live there any more and do not have a number for you. They should be in the Minneapolis phone book.
