PDMWorks-How to copy files out

PDMWorks-How to copy files out

(OP)
A while ago we had loaded alot of files into our PDMWorks 2004 and were using it as a library (no projects at that time).  We were slow for a time and didn't upgrade it to 2005 and then 2006 came out so we were just going to upgrade to that.  Then we came to find out that 2006 is not compatible with our Windows NT servers.  Our company it trying to upgrade the servers, but it is a money issue with the higher ups.  [Please no comment, we are strenuously working on them and have used all of the arguments why it needs to be done.  It will possibly happen in Arpil.]  Until then, I need to know if there is a way to suck all of the files out of PDM so that we can use them on a daily basis. Right now we have one seat of 2004 up so we can go over there and download parts when we need them.

Thanks

Please check this statement out with your VAR before proceeding. I believe a PDM\Works Vault server does not even need to be a server. You can put the vault on any Windows XP Pro computer located on the network. Then point PDM to that vault. You may want to look into doing this until you get your server up and running. Copying out files and not checking them back into the PDM would be a very big mistake. You would loose control very quickly.

Interesting suggestion, we will definitely look into it.

RE: PDMWorks-How to copy files out

I agree with Bradley.
Also, making a copy of everything out of the vault and working with them from there, IMO is more work and $$ than upgrading the server. You also will lose all history and revisions from that point on.

RE: PDMWorks-How to copy files out

Hi, You should have no problems in doing this. In addition to our working vault on a Windows 2003 server, I have a vault for testing purposes on my own Windows XP (SP2) PC. It works fine.
