Double Mech Seal on a PC Pump

See the above picture

There is a fitting/connection on the side of this Mono/Seepex pump.
What would it be generally be used for?

I plan to make a Plan 32-style use of this.
The PC pump, pumps pva glue basically.
When the glue sets between batches we get torque problems in the seal.
If there was a Plan 32 Steam connection, this could soften the glue between batches....or so the plan goes.

Any thoughts from the group.

TIA

RE: Double Mech Seal on a PC Pump

I can't tell from the picture if that connection is a process side connection into the seal chamber or an atmosphere side connection.  You should consult a drawing to be sure.  It is most likely process side, in which case it could be used for a plan 32 flush.  With that said, I have never heard of using steam for a plan 32 flush.  We would normally use steam as a quech (plan 61) into an atmosphere side connection.  However, if steam is compatible with the process and the materials of construction of the pump, I guess it could be done.  The flow of steam would warm the pump and seal and help avoid the problem of product locking the seal faces together on start-up. It might be worth a try.
