buttress thread over 24 inches

buttress thread over 24 inches

(OP)
Does anybody have any suggestions as to how to design a buttress thread for a major diameter of 60"?

The standard forms go up to a major diameter of 24". The machinery's handbook suggests the pitch should be 2*major diameter/15.  If I went with this my pitch would be 8 with a TPI of 0.125.  Is the scaling linear or could I get away with a smaller pitch?

RE: buttress thread over 24 inches

That's a big-ass thread, alright.  Sure, you could use a finer pitch, but remember you'll be lifting the parts with a crane, and turning them with ... I don't know what; a big-ass wrench?

And what will you use to lift the wrench?

The point is, you need features of, uh, sturdy, geometry.

Or consider a plurality of smaller fasteners, like a SuperBolt.
