RE: Bit Error Rate in fiber comm

It will depend on a couple of factors:

1)  How tolerant is your system for bit errors?  Is there any safety concerns if a flipped bit is not detected, etc.

2)  Do you have Error Detection Circuitry (EDC) or code?  Can you tell when a bit is flipped?

3)  Do you have Error Correction Circuitry (ECC) or code?  Can you fix a flipped bit?

in our system it check the received data frame by parity check error and if found an error it ask again to retransmit

RE: Bit Error Rate in fiber comm

You probably have a malfunctioning board(s), particularly, if it was working properly in the past.

If your system is not pushing the requirements envelope, there's no reason to worry about the BER, since you should have plenty of SNR.
