Improved adhesion on gold
Improved adhesion on gold
(OP)
Hi,
I'm looking to improve the adhesion of an epoxy on a gold layer. Plasma surface activation doesn't bring good enough results. Is there any other activation methods ? What is the max surface tension I can get with gold ? Would nickel be better ?
Thanks for reading.

RE: Improved adhesion on gold
The initial process was to use a very fine (?30-50 micron?)pure aluminum oxide to abrade the surface.
We also use a tin strike or plate on either the original gold surface or the abraded gold surface.
The original work was on bonding to gold was based on work accomplished by the dental industry, one of the chemist’s brother was a dentist. Later work was done through suppliers of the adhesives and a contractor associated with NASA. Both of the surface preparations were still in use even as the adhesives changed throughout the project.
