Possible Tax Break for Engineers in US?????

Possible Tax Break for Engineers in US?????

(OP)
A friend told me to read up about Line 35 on the 1040 form.

"You may be able to deduct up to 3% of your qalified production activities income from the following activities..

2.)  Engineering or architectural services performed in the U.S. for construction projects in the U.S."

You are supposed to use form 8903 on irs.gov.  I found the form but can not find the instructions on how to use the form.

Do any of you know what this tax law is refering to or how to apply it?

Thanks

RE: Possible Tax Break for Engineers in US?????

That is clear as mud.  I just read the whole thin and I have zero idea what the heck qualifies aas QPAI or DPAD.  But thanks for pointing us to it.

RE: Possible Tax Break for Engineers in US?????

I just saw this post and agree - this looks like a foreign language to me.  If anyone has a clue whether or not if we "normal" engineers qualify for another tax break, let us know.

RE: Possible Tax Break for Engineers in US?????

This looks to be for corporations and direct business activities.  Off hand, I think if you are an employer or self-employed, this might be of interest.

PSE is right.  I've looked at this all week.  It does not apply to you unless you are an owner in a business or self employed.

RE: Possible Tax Break for Engineers in US?????

It sounds to me like it applies to construction workers too (in addition to their employers).

Hey, lets all get rid of this problem to begin with!  Abolish the Income Tax and the IRS.  Support the FAIR TAX!

Read about the FAIR TAX at www.fairtax.org!!!
Then tell everyone you know and call or write
your local representatives.
The Fair Tax:
-Creates Jobs in the USA
-Ends the Income Tax
-ABOLISHES the IRS
-Low Income - No Tax
