Color display in 3DXML files

Color display in 3DXML files

(OP)
I am having some problems with colors in 3dxml files.

I have found, that if you want a certain color displayed in the output, it seems to need to be defined in the first level under the product tree.  However, I have several parts that are created as multi-body parts, and I want them to be displayed as colored in the CATPart.  As it stands now, everything not specified first level under the assembly defaults to "automatic", which gives me a grey color output.

This is customer data, so I'm not going to rebuild the part as an assembly. (however, it's almost impossible to discern certain details without different colors, hence defeating the purpose of the 3dxml format)

Does anyone know how to achieve what I'm after?

Thanks in advance.

I suspect you will have to edit the multi-body part and apply color to each of the Bodies in it.

As for re-building it as an assembly, a simple script can do that for you - each body becomes a part, and then the script builds a product to reassemble them.  Then when you go to send it back to the customer, use "Create CATPart From Product"
