Who can machine 5m+ of Alu7075?
Who can machine 5m+ of Alu7075?
(OP)
Hi
I hope this is the right place to put this...
I'm looking for a vendor who can provide me with a roughly 5 metre long section of 7075 T6 or T7. The cross section is roughly square, but one side is pointed, giving a 'triangle on top of a square' shape. Its about 40mm by 20 mm.
Does anyone out there know of a shop - anywhere - that could do this? The piece must be 1 continous section, not 2 pieces joined together.
Thanks
FP

Only 5 meters long?
With such a simple cross-section, it may be cheaper to have it extruded for a quantity of at least 15 (my guess; get quotes). About 45 pieces from a 1500# billet. Solutionizing heat treatment would be is part of the extrusion process, then pieces are cut to length, age hardened, and anodized and dyed or powder coated if desired.
Note: extruders pay far less for alloys than small users.
Get a price quote from http://argylein.com/index.html (plants in 8 states) or Google for a local aluminum extruder.

We had a vendor lined up to do the job, but now, 2 months after getting the drawing, he informs us he has to weld 2 sections together to get the 5m length, and this is not really an option.
Unfortunately we only need 2 of these pieces in total, its not a volume job, so extrusion wouldn't be economical.
Again, thanks for the advice.
