Can anyone help me to find some introduction materials of the major ways of bearing pads replacement? Thank you very much.

By the way, I read something about a kind of inflatable airbag used for jacking the bridge in replacement of the rubber bearing pads. Anyone heard something about it?

Thank you very much.

RE: about bearing pads replacement.

I've heard of the air jacks but never used them. We use pancake jacks for this work...low profile hydraulic jacks (Enerpac is one company that sells them).  Pretty straightforward operation.  You just need a good bearing surface and something to jack against.

RE: about bearing pads replacement.

You reference them as bearing pads...  Keep in mind that some bearing pads have keyways, which will require you to jack to clear the keyway, not just to relieve the load.

RE: about bearing pads replacement.

If involved with steel bearings, most pads are manufactured to the upper sole plate and will not remove very easily.  Furthermore the bottoms of the pads are usuaully glued to the concrete surface and that may become a factor in removal as well.
