Div 1 versus Div 2

Div 1 versus Div 2

Div 1 versus Div 2

(OP)
Apart from client requirements to use Div 2 what is the rough guide  eeconomical break point when choosing between Div 1 and 2?
Is Div 2 cheaper above a certain wall thick taking into account the additional design and NDT involved?
What do you guys out there think?

RE: Div 1 versus Div 2

One other factor is some shops have stamps for Div 1 but not Div 2, so if you specify Div 2 only, you also limit who can build it.

RE: Div 1 versus Div 2

sometimes engineering, inspection costs much more than saving in material

RE: Div 1 versus Div 2

Roca,

Another issue is the material used.  I do not use Div. 2 often, but it is my understanding that the increased allowable stresses are for tensile only and not for yield.  So if you are using a material that has its allowable stress limited by yield in div. 1, it will have the same allowable in Div. 2.
