Blast Gate loss coefficient

Blast Gate loss coefficient

(OP)
I am trying to calculate the pressure drop across a standard (ACGIH type A) blast gate in an exhaust system design.  What is an acceptable friction factor(when the gate is fully open)?

TIA.

RE: Blast Gate loss coefficient

You can crunch alot of numbers or make your own manometer using tygon tubing and water to determine what the d.p. would be. Wheatstone bridge is another idea. How accurate are you trying to get. Is the air a constant temp or variable? You need to determine the Q of you air flow (average temp/density) so you can calculate resistance to the surface area of the gate. Then run it through a venturi calculation.
